Good morning and a warm welcome! Today marks the start of the MVA Energy Interdependency Blog, which is intended to be a source for current energy news and analysis. Our coverage will be intentionally broad yet with a sharp focus on the increasing interdependency of natural gas and electric transmission. The growing use of natural gas as fuel for generating electricity has captured the attention of the industries and regulators alike. Clearly, an effective interaction between the industries is of paramount importance. MVA contributors will cover these issues as well as areas including regulatory actions and enforcement, technological innovations, exploration and financing, commodity pricing trends and other relevant developments within the industry. On the regulatory side, we will cover federal action and oversight as well as state commission orders that may have wider impacts on the industry. We will discuss the ongoing exploration and mining of shale gas throughout the country and its impact on other commodity markets, transportation and overall energy infrastructure. Beyond that, we hope to use this space to cover and define what is encompassed by the term “energy industry” and its role in the emerging 21st century economy.
